The art of directing
Much has been written about the art of leadership and leadership in organizations. There are many theories as people, and leadership style that is unique to each person. Therefore, there is no "magic bullets" or fixed rules of conduct in this: it is a matter of personality, charisma and some basic guidelines.
There is a notable lack of leaders, promoted by excessive specialization in education today. How many professionals know that, far from wanting to evolve and learn new techniques and approaches are "locked" in their area of expertise? Be excellent as technicians in their field, but mediocre when they have to leave it.
As a first defense of specialization, it appears that it is difficult for a "normal" master several disciplines and that force has to specialize in anything else obvious. We have here a dangerous limitation, because it predisposes a person to have a limited learning not only in content but also in time.
How many people go to college, it takes a career, a master and stops, we think that enough is enough? More than desirable. Do not forget that most big men in the past were experts in various disciplines, being then, scholars generally.
Although I can not compare with those great sages of humanity, I think everyone should strive to open minds. Currently my studies not only cover the area of corporate governance (that many professionals and consultants limited to only one of its many aspects) but I try to be at least informed about the latest trends in law and legality, economics, political science, international relations, psychology, sociology, history and philosophy.
As you might imagine, this extra effort, tend to distinguish and give me a broader view than the more specialized professionals are only able to see the problems of their specialty. Often, training is generally able to "see beyond" and to offer a more creative solutions.
This creativity and vision are qualities inherent in the "art of leadership" with which we began this article, and liberal education helps a lot to develop our mind and personality features that will undoubtedly have a lot to the XXI century leader .
