Your Internet Home Business Name Domain Is Critical
I was there. Waiting in the lobby to meet my next client. Ahhh, the good life. Sipping a swallow nice and clean filtered water from my bottle take the conversation across the street. What do you know, but also earn a living on the Internet.
Then, suddenly, as if my chair was pulled out from under the perch from where I sat bypassing send me to the ground, I heard.
"We advise you to assign a name to William.com new website."
Now, unless you were talking about Bill Gates or Billy Graham, and I was pretty sure neither would be the case, I could not believe my ears. Their client was a home business time management consultant. No one would have to search its website using Google or any other search engine using its name. I wanted to get up and yell, STOP! But I think I was half stunned by the sheer ignorance being displayed by people in my field.
See, when you choose a domain name that you want to use the strongest keyword within that domain name for best results. True that you can build name recognition over time, in some cases such as Google.com and Yahoo.com but I'm pretty sure that the home business time management consultant William was not interested in what we would like to make this happen for his name.
Therefore, it is a much better use tools like SEO Elite and HitTail to determine what your strong keyword for the project and that would be the keyword. At least they could have suggested TimeManagementConsultant.com.
Ahhhh, you say. But wait! This specific domain name is already taken by someone else somewhere else.
End. Making HomeBusinessTimeManagementConsultant.com or TimeManagementConsultant4U.com. The point is that there are options to fit your keyword in your domain name. What do you think people will look for a consultant to manage time? William.com or TimeManagementConsultant4U.com? You get the point I'm sure.
Furthermore, when choosing a domain name I made a rule to stay away from anything that does not end in ". Com". Simply have not seen a pretty good argument for choosing "all other dot" at this point. However, if I change my mind is not difficult to buy the "dot every" and redirect to my. "Com" website. I'm sure this will probably change over time, but for now this is what I'm sticking with my recommendation and then.
In closing, next time someone tells you to use your name as a domain name, first laugh out loud in your face and then get up and walk away. Making such a proposal demonstrates their obvious ignorance of what they are doing. And have a web master who are unaware of their work is certainly not going to bode well for your success on the Internet ....
