Writing the News - A Book Review

Today, the news is not what it once was and many American newspapers are closing. You can pick up a newspaper in the country and a third of the contents will be exactly the same as the journalists were always fewer jobs, and more information is taken from 'AP as a filler. It 's hard to say in the future if there will be newspapers, many have predicted his own death for a long time, and unfortunately, such a case the potential is always looking for more real every day.

If the topics concern the news of writing you, if you find this a fascinating subject, or if you are a writer or journalist I would recommend a good book for you on this topic. The name of the book;

"Journalism and Writing," by the Missouri Group, and the School of Journalism, University of Missouri at Columbia, 1988.

In the first part of this book, talks about the philosophy and methods for the fair and correct reference. This also explains the damage that can be done from the reports, or journalists who have a hidden agenda. Indeed, I was pleased to see this series of chapters in a part that dealt with ethics in the media, something I believe is lacking today, of course this book was written 20 years ago.

In the second part of this book is about ways to gather information for writing and in the next section explains the importance of good writing, and basic skills. There is also talk of sources, protected sources, looking for news stories and complex. Part four, five and six of this book is all about how to apply the techniques to create the news.

In part, there are seven case studies that are very interesting. An interesting notation is that of 514 local stories, only 11 of those appeared in other newspapers, and we must ask why. There are many factors to this as the impact on other sectors, proximity, timeliness of other stories that were similar to their communities, the novelty of the story, and the amount of human conflict. It 's been much talk of secondary news cycles, where the stories have been given a fresh cut.

This is a very interesting book to read, and one that I have in my library for writing. If you're going to write about current events, current affairs, news, events, or even politicians, I suggest that you own the book. Indeed, I hope that you should do it .......
